Chance for New Style Government

Editor The Chronicle - Sir: The Chronicle should be commended for its appreciation of the importance of the proposed new State of Jefferson, which appreciation it has shown by sending an ace reporter to the future capital.

This secession might be the beginning of a very useful and timely movement, getting rid of the accumulated clutter of unnecessary officials and ordinances which have been obstructing our attempts to make a living with ever-increasing technicalities and delays. It is disappointing to see in the picture of the organizers that they call themselves by outmoded titles, such as "Governor," etc., not realizing their great chance for freedom.

If the inhabitants of Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, and Lassen counties, together with the leader, County Curry, would organize as the District of Jefferson, discarding at one blow all the accumulated trash in the form of present local and State governments, elect a board of directors who would appoint an executive officer to carry out their decisions, the inhabitants could go back to sitting on the corral fence at Yreka and suffer comfort.

It might also then be possible for all of us to concentrate on the most important thing to them, as to each of us: How to sell their cows for enough to buy feed to raise the next batch of calves.
