Regardless of political boundaries, the Eel R. watershed must be included in the State of Jefferson; apparently it is not!

A ride down the canyon of the Eel R. (main fork) in 1967 by rail was enriched by the presence of an older couple who detrained at Kekawaka (Trinity County), meet by jeep and whisked up to their ranch. She was nice - passed mints up and down the aisle. Who were they? THE VERY Dean Witter and his wife Helen. NWP rail service to the north coast will indeed return!

My father C.E. Reagan was active in establishing the State pf Jefferson and on November 29, 1941 while in Redding Ca. he sent himself a letter addressed to C.E. Reagan Happy Camp, Jefferson. It cost 3 cents and was delivered to Happy Camp by the US Postal Service. I still have the letter.

My family has been in he Klamath Basin and throughout the State of Jefferson for 10 generations. They were original Homesteaders who came prior to the Applegate Trail. Over time that included Railroad folk in Dunsmuir, Farmers and Ranchers in Poe Valley and Merchants in Linkville/Klamath Falls. I know they are probably all rolling their graves at the mess their hard work and sacrifice has become. I truly wish and pray with all my heart that the Jefferson "state of mind" can someday become a reality.
